The best romcom I've seen in forever.
Finding Emily had me giggling and kicking my feet and nervous and just in love with Emily and Owen and especially Owen and scared for Emily and wanting to dance totally crazy with my best friend and just let it all out. I haven’t seen this good a romcom in ages and I’d like everyone to see it. Currently available to purchase or rent on streaming.
On the other hand, Voicemails for Isabelle (Netflix) was bland. I bawled given the subject matter but wound through a lot too. What else did I wind through? All of Lauren’s storyline on Ransom Canyon. Who cares? Not me. Ransom Canyon (Netflix) is one of those comforting cowboy shows where everyone is hot and somehow rich and if they’re not rich, they have the musical talent to go and play the piano in New York for six months to raise the money they need. It’s a good time.
Confessions II is a super fun, great dance album that reminds me why she is the icon that she is. Also, when you google Madonna new album MADONNA comes up in a red and pink flashing font in the AI overview. Genius.
The release of Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey gave me the nudge I needed to read a translation of the text. Nolan’s film featured heavy in my mind because even though I haven’t seen it, I just imagined the actors from the film in their respective roles. Matt Damon has done a lot of good PR and it’s got me questioning whether I dislike him like I thought.
The rest of the month has been a cycle of detective novel rereads, random episodes of Ted Lasso (Apple TV) and New Girl (Disney), as well as the latest season of Grace, which is as solid as ever but isn’t going to change the trajectory of anything. I haven’t been able to settle into much and keep watching clips of Zendaya and Tom Holland’s numerous press clips.
What have you been consuming?
P.S someone wrote a Substack note saying that they didn’t like the word consumption for the reading/listening to/watching of media. I asked them about it and then some other people replied and I lost track, but I get the impression a lot of people see it as too fast and loose to describe what can be an intimate deliberate process.
I recently have watched The Gentlemen (movie not the TV series) and Ghosts of Girlfriend’s Past both recommended by yourself and both thoroughly enjoyed!
